The fundraising campaign tied to Karmelo Anthony’s defense raised more than $630,000 before it disappeared the day after his murder conviction and the gap between what is documented and what is being claimed online has become its own controversy. According to TMZ , the GiveSendGo page created by Anthony’s mother climbed above $630,000 before the platform removed it following the June 9 conviction. The Washington Times reported the campaign, titled the “Help Karmelo Official Fund” and organized by his mother, Kala Hayes, was posted on April 15, 2025. This was less than two weeks after the stabbing stating an initial goal approaching $1.4 million. GiveSendGo has said the funds were distributed over the past year for legal defense and family relocation. That is where verification matters.
