On Monday, August 10, 2026, the State Department made it official: under President Trump, more than 175,000 visas have been revoked from foreign nationals since he returned to office in January 2025. That is not a rounding error. That is a policy — and, at long last, a border enforced from the inside out.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s department put the principle in seven words the open-borders crowd cannot stand to hear: “A U.S. visa is a privilege, not a right.” Imagine that. A government that treats access to the greatest country on earth as something to be earned and honored, not something you keep no matter how you behave once you’re through the door.

And how did the holders of these visas behave? According to State, the majority lost them after “law enforcement encounters” — assault, drunk driving, theft, and drug crimes leading the pack, with a significant share for reckless driving, sexual assault, child abuse, and fraud. These are the “contributions” the open-borders lobby waved through and told you to celebrate.

The specifics the department released ought to be nailed to the door of every sanctuary-city mayor in America. State says its revocations include a foreign national charged with felony rape and sexual battery — one victim reportedly mentally disabled. Another charged with felony kidnapping, human trafficking, and sexual exploitation of a minor. One charged with sodomy of a child and aggravated sexual battery. One charged with more than a dozen counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. One arrested for driving with heroin and a blood-alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. A man who came here to teach students, then was arrested for sexually assaulting one. These are charges and arrests, not convictions — but tell me why the United States is obligated to keep hosting the accused while the courts sort it out.

Then there is Tou Lue Vang. Forty-two years old, a father of six, deported to Laos last month on “foreign policy grounds.” Why was he still here to deport? Because Minnesota Governor Tim Walz — yes, that Tim Walz — pardoned him weeks earlier over a 2005 conviction for sexually abusing a child. Let that be the epitaph of blue-state governance: the feds revoke the visa of a man convicted of child sexual abuse while the Democratic governor is busy handing him a pardon. Rubio’s State Department cleaned up a mess Walz created.

The department did not stop at the criminal docket. It revoked visas from people who publicly cheered the September 2025 assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk — one who wrote that “when fascists die, democrats don’t complain,” another who said Kirk “died too late.” You do not get to enter our country on our hospitality and celebrate the murder of an American over his politics. Add the Cuban national tied to a regime influence operation, the Iranian nationals linked to the mullahs, and the Kuwaiti national who wished violence on the President and called Americans his “enemy,” and the picture is complete: this is a State Department that finally understands a visa is a handshake, not a hostage situation.

A U.S. embassy in North Africa even pulled more than 100 visas from “birth tourists” — foreigners who flew in for the express purpose of dropping an anchor baby to game our citizenship. Common sense, restored.

Naturally, the professional hand-wringers have complaints. Some immigration lawyers whine that the administration is canceling visas over “minor encounters” or charges that “never went through the judicial process.” Spare us. A visa is not a criminal sentence; it is a discretionary invitation, and the government that issues it may withdraw it. Nobody is deporting citizens or stripping anyone of a courtroom — we are simply declining to keep extending a privilege to people who turn up on a police blotter for domestic violence, drugged driving, or child exploitation. If the worst thing you can say about a policy is that it errs on the side of protecting American families, it is a good policy.

The numbers tell the real story of intent. More than 10,000 revocations a month in 2026, up from more than 8,000 across all of 2025, on top of the 100,000-plus the administration announced back in January. This is not a one-time press release. It is continuous vetting, month after month, exactly as promised.

For years we were lectured that enforcing our own immigration laws was cruel, xenophobic, un-American. One hundred seventy-five thousand revoked visas later, here is the truth: it was never cruelty. It was the bare minimum a serious country owes its own citizens. Trump and Rubio are simply doing the job. Let them keep the receipts coming.

Sources:

U.S. Department of State, Office of the Spokesperson, “State Department Revokes More Than 175,000 Visas” (Aug. 10, 2026): https://www.state.gov/releases/office-of-the-spokesperson/2026/08/state-department-revokes-more-than-175000-visas

The Hill, Laura Kelly, “Trump administration revokes more than 175,000 visas” (Aug. 10, 2026): https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/6020599-trump-administration-visa-revocation/

The State Department says it has revoked more than 175,000 visas under President Trump — and the case files, from accused child predators to Charlie Kirk’s cheerleaders, explain exactly why.
