Tomorrow \u2014 Tuesday, August 11 \u2014 Wisconsin holds its primary for governor, and the heartland is about to tell the rest of the country whether the socialist fever burning up the coasts gets to plant its flag in the Badger State.<\/p>\n

On one side stands Tom Tiffany: a former dairy farmer turned congressman, a House Freedom Caucus member with President Trump’s endorsement in his pocket, and the clear GOP frontrunner over primary rival Andrew Manske. On the other, the Democrats’ frontrunner \u2014 Francesca Hong, a 37-year-old former restaurant owner from Madison and a card-carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America. Four straight Marquette Law School polls show Hong running away with her field, leaving Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, former state administration secretary Joel Brennan, and state Senator Kelda Roys in the dust. That should worry every working family in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

Because this is who the modern Democratic Party is now. Not the beer-and-bratwurst union Democrat your grandfather knew \u2014 a DSA socialist who wants to remake Wisconsin in the image of Madison’s faculty lounge.<\/p>\n

Look at the agenda. Hong has backed defunding the police. She backs a $20 minimum wage that would squeeze every diner and corner shop in the state \u2014 an odd cause for a woman who once ran a restaurant. She wants government-run “public banks” and government-run grocery stores. She wants universal childcare on the taxpayer’s dime. And her “TAX THE RICH” plan hikes state income taxes by 1% on couples earning over $431,000 and individuals over $323,000 \u2014 numbers that sound safely distant until you remember how quickly a small-business owner’s “income” crosses that line, and how fast “the rich” turns into “you.”<\/p>\n

Then there’s the paper trail Hong would love you to forget. In 2021 she posted that police “exist to uphold white supremacy.” She’s called for abolishing the United States Senate. She’s even taken shots at Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day. Now that she smells the governor’s mansion, she’s “walked back” some of it. Pressed recently on whether she still wants to defund the police, she wouldn’t give a straight answer. Her explanation for the whole radical record? They were just “hot takes,” “bad takes.” “I let my feelings out into the world,” she says. How reassuring \u2014 the woman who wants to run the state treats calls to gut law enforcement like a tweet she’d like to delete.<\/p>\n

Tiffany isn’t buying the rebrand, and neither should you. “They do not believe in some of these crazy policies, abolish prisons, abolish police, highest tax rates that you could possibly have,” he said of ordinary Wisconsinites \u2014 including the Democrats among his own neighbors. And he frames this race as bigger than one state: “Is the heartland going to be the firewall that stops this movement of socialism coming from, especially the East Coast? And I think Wisconsin will be. We’ll be the place that stops socialism.”<\/p>\n

That’s the whole thing in one breath. Wisconsin as the firewall. The last sane rampart between the coastal socialist experiment and the American interior.<\/p>\n

Glenn Youngkin \u2014 the Republican who flipped Virginia and knows how to beat these people \u2014 came to Wisconsin to say it plainly. In his telling, “what Francesca Hong stands for is the antithesis of America. She wants to defund police, close prisons. She wants to get rid of the military. She wants to get rid of the presidency.” Those are Youngkin’s words \u2014 his read of where the DSA agenda leads. And his bottom line cuts through the spin: “This is what this election eventually is gonna be about \u2014 common sense against crazy.”<\/p>\n

Common sense against crazy. That’s the ballgame.<\/p>\n

Here’s the truth the media won’t tell you: the socialists aren’t hiding anymore. All year, far-left candidates have been knocking off moderate Democrats in primaries across the country \u2014 and now they think the heartland is soft enough to fall next. They’re betting Wisconsin voters will be charmed by a soft-focus story about a nice lady who used to run a restaurant, and won’t read the fine print about defunding cops and taxing the productive class into the ground.<\/p>\n

Prove them wrong. Tuesday isn’t just a primary \u2014 it’s a message. Wisconsin can be the domino that falls, or the wall that holds. Tiffany is betting on the wall. So am I. Send the coasts a message they can’t spin: not here. Not in the heartland. Not ever.<\/p>\n
