On Monday night, July 27, 2026, the Oversight Project\u2014an arm of the Heritage Foundation\u2014dropped roughly three hours of audio and 117 pages of transcripts from Joe Biden\u2019s 2016\u20132017 interviews with his memoir ghostwriter, Mark Lewis Zwonitzer. These are the same recordings that Special Counsel Robert Hur cited in his 2024 report on Biden\u2019s handling of classified documents. Biden fought their release for months. Then, on Monday, he simply withdrew his legal challenge.<\/p>\n

What the American people can now hear for themselves is not complicated. It is damning.<\/p>\n

On the tapes, Biden discusses material he himself suggests may be classified. \u201cThey didn\u2019t even know I had this.\u201d \u201cI just found all of the classified stuff downstairs\u201d\u2014this in the context of a 2009 forty-page handwritten memo he wrote to President Obama arguing against sending more troops to Afghanistan. \u201cSome of this may be classified, so be careful.\u201d \u201cThis is classified.\u201d Biden was never charged. These remain allegations and characterizations. But the words are his, spoken in his own voice, years before he ran for president again.<\/p>\n

The memory lapses are just as clear. \u201cI should write the names down because I keep forgetting them.\u201d \u201cOh gosh. I, I can\u2019t think of what it is.\u201d \u201cI can\u2019t read my own writing.\u201d On April 24, 2017, Biden struggled to recall his own economic advisers. The ghostwriter had to prompt him with the name Alan Krueger.<\/p>\n

This is the same man Robert Hur described in 2024 as \u201can elderly man with a poor memory\u201d whose memory was \u201csignificantly limited.\u201d Hur, appointed as special counsel, investigated in 2023 and published his report the following year. He declined to prosecute, citing in part Biden\u2019s cooperation and the reality that a jury might view a sympathetic elderly man differently. Hur did not invent the description. He documented what the evidence showed.<\/p>\n

In 2024, prominent Democrats did not merely disagree with Hur. They attacked him with coordinated fury. Then-Vice President Kamala Harris called the report \u201cinaccurate and inappropriate,\u201d \u201cclearly politically motivated, gratuitous,\u201d and said the characterization \u201ccould not be more wrong on the facts.\u201d Representative Dan Goldman of New York dismissed Hur as \u201ca Republican special counsel who completely went out of his way to editorialize\u201d\u2014even though the appointment was nonpartisan. Former FBI general counsel Andrew Weissman went on MSNBC and called it \u201cgratuitous.\u201d Biden spokesman Ian Sams used the same word. Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota insisted Biden was \u201cat the very top of his game.\u201d<\/p>\n

They knew. Or they chose not to know. Either way, they spent months telling the country that any suggestion of cognitive decline was a right-wing smear. Then came the 2024 debate against Donald Trump. Biden\u2019s performance was so poor he dropped out of the race. Kamala Harris replaced him atop the ticket without winning a single primary vote. The same political class that had ridiculed Hur\u2019s findings suddenly discovered urgency about the very problem they had denied.<\/p>\n

Now the current Biden spokesman, TJ Ducklo, offers this response: \u201cPresident Biden\u2019s conversations for a book a decade ago that discussed his late son are private\u2026 Reversing course and making them public is just the latest example of this Administration weaponizing the DOJ for political retribution.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spare us. The man who spent years fighting the release of recordings that undercut his own defense of fitness now frames transparency as weaponization. The same political machine that spent 2024 calling a special counsel\u2019s factual observations \u201cgratuitous\u201d and \u201cpolitically motivated\u201d suddenly discovers principle when the audio becomes public. This is not about protecting private conversations about a late son. It is about protecting a narrative that collapsed the moment voters saw Biden on a debate stage.<\/p>\n

The Oversight Project and Heritage had to sue the Department of Justice to force these materials into the open. Biden resisted. Then he folded. The recordings are out. The transcripts are out. The American people can hear the voice, the pauses, the admissions about classified material, and the repeated failures of memory.<\/p>\n

Hur was right. The Democrats who attacked him were wrong\u2014and they knew it. The cover story that Biden was sharp, engaged, and fully capable was a political necessity in 2024. It was never a factual one. The tapes make that plain.<\/p>\n

This is not ancient history. It is the documented record of how a major party and its media allies gaslit the country about the cognitive condition of a man seeking four more years in the Oval Office. They called the truth \u201cgratuitous.\u201d They called the messenger partisan. They insisted the subject was \u201cat the very top of his game.\u201d Then the debate happened, the candidacy ended, and the replacement was installed without a primary.<\/p>\n

The recordings do not need spin. They need to be heard. Every American who was told in 2024 that concerns about Biden\u2019s memory were a right-wing invention now has the primary source material. Listen to it. Read the transcripts. Then decide who was telling the truth and who was protecting power.<\/p>\n

WarBoys will keep putting the receipts in front of the public. The Democrats can keep calling transparency \u201cweaponization.\u201d The tapes will still be there.<\/p>\n
