On July 22, 2026, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis fired the opening shot: \u201cNo amnesty! Amnesty is NOT what people voted for in 2024!\u201d<\/p>\n

The target was the Securing Agriculture\u2019s Workforce Act, a bill introduced by House Agriculture Chairman G.T. Thompson of Pennsylvania and already carrying nearly 50 Republican cosponsors. The legislation creates a path to temporary legal status for undocumented migrants who can show six months of agricultural work and expands the H-2A guest-worker program to year-round operations such as dairy. Industry groups including the National Milk Producers Federation and the National Council of Agricultural Employers cheered it as relief for labor shortages. President Trump, asked about the bill at the White House on July 22, answered with deliberate distance: \u201cI don\u2019t know about it. I\u2019ll take a look at it.\u201d House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan made the practical call the same day, announcing the measure would not be attached to the border security package advancing through Congress. The message was clear. The mass-deportation mandate is not a suggestion, and temporary legal status for people already inside the country illegally is the same poison the base has rejected for a decade.<\/p>\n

The establishment is running out of tricks. Agribusiness has long treated the border as a labor pipeline and the Republican Party as its protection racket. That arrangement is finished. The voters who delivered the 2024 mandate did not cast ballots so that the same lobbyists could quietly reopen the door under a different name. They voted for removal, for enforcement, for an end to the special carve-outs that turn every industry shortage into another amnesty demand.<\/p>\n
