By brokering this framework, the administration is helping create a path where the Lebanese army\u2014not an Iranian proxy\u2014controls Lebanese territory, where peace becomes possible between Israel and Lebanon, and where economic recovery has a fighting chance.<\/p>\n

Critics on the left and in the never-Trump crowd will downplay this. They always do. They\u2019ll mutter about complexities, historical grievances, and the need for more \u201cnuance.\u201d But the facts speak louder than their excuses. A Lebanese president is in Washington pitching a plan to dismantle Hezbollah\u2019s arsenal. A framework for Israeli withdrawal and Lebanese army deployment is moving forward. Hezbollah is on the defensive, rejected by its own government\u2019s negotiations. These are developments the establishment could only dream about.<\/p>\n

President Trump has always understood that strength deters war and creates openings for peace. His administration is proving it again.
