On Wednesday, July 15, 2026, more than 100 House Democrats stood up and voted to slash critical U.S. military aid to our ally Israel. This wasn’t some fringe protest vote. It was a raw display of the Democratic Party’s deepening civil war — one that reveals just how far the radical left has dragged their party away from strength, security, and basic common sense heading into the 2026 midterms.

The amendment, offered by Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky, would have stripped $3.3 billion from an Israeli security aid account in the fiscal 2027 National Security-State appropriations bill. It went down 104-314. Massie was the only Republican to support it. On the Democratic side? 103 voted yes, 98 no, and 10 present. Nearly half the caucus backed cutting off Israel, and among those who actually took a yes-or-no position, a majority said “no more aid.”

This is the Democratic Party in 2026: fractured, radicalizing, and increasingly hostile to one of America’s most important partners in a dangerous world. Their own leaders couldn’t hold the line. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries voted no, calling the amendment “overly broad,” and made clear that leadership wasn’t whipping the vote. Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar voted no. But Minority Whip Katherine Clark voted yes, declaring that “the status quo is not tenable” and that America shouldn’t provide a “blank check for military aid to any country that does not comply with U.S. law, interests, and values.” Even former Speaker Nancy Pelosi voted yes, though she called the amendment’s substance “ill-conceived.”

The progressive wing, led by Rep. Greg Casar of Texas as chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, drove the charge hard. Casar wrote to his colleagues that “The American people are crying out for an end to US tax dollars subsidizing Israel’s military” and that “The Democratic Party needs a new approach to Israel and Palestine.” He claimed Israel “has killed more than 70,000 people in Gaza.” Massie, on the floor, called Israel “the biggest welfare recipient of the United States” and referenced “70,000 casualties in Gaza.” Both of those figures are their claims — not established, independently verified fact.

Let that sink in. Over one hundred Democrats, including key leadership figures, sided with the radicals who want to turn their backs on Israel while Hamas and its proxies openly seek the Jewish state’s destruction. This isn’t nuanced foreign policy debate. This is the modern Democratic Party revealing its true priorities: appeasing the anti-Israel left at the expense of American strength and moral clarity.

Rep. Brad Sherman accused Republican leaders of scheduling the vote to “drive a wedge” between Democrats in an election year. Nice try. No one forced those 103 Democrats to vote the way they did. They chose this. The wedge is already driven deep into their own caucus.

Contrast that chaos with the broader picture. Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart of Florida, the Appropriations subcommittee chairman, rightly defended the funding, noting that Israel uses “the overwhelming majority” of the money to buy American-made weapons — directly supporting our defense industrial base and American jobs. That’s real leverage, real partnership, and real America First thinking. Aid to Israel isn’t charity; it’s a strategic investment in a frontline ally that helps deter greater threats to U.S. interests.

The numbers from the voters tell the same story of Democratic drift. A New York Times/Siena Research Institute poll released in late May found 74% of Democratic voters oppose sending Israel additional economic or military aid. Their base is pulling them further left, and the politicians are following. Analysts say Democrats are favored to take the House in November’s midterms. If this vote is any indication, that majority would supercharge the worst impulses in their party — more weakness abroad, more division at home, and more pandering to the extremes.

Make no mistake about what this signals. Weakness invites aggression. Abandoning reliable allies like Israel tells every adversary — from Tehran to Beijing — that America’s resolve is crumbling under Democratic leadership. The same faction pushing to cut aid to Israel is the one that has spent years chipping away at our borders, our military readiness, and our national confidence. History keeps teaching the lesson, and they keep refusing to learn it.

This schism isn’t a bug in the Democratic machine. It’s the feature. The progressive takeover is complete enough that even leadership won’t fight it aggressively. Jeffries and company talk tough about party unity, but when push comes to shove on the House floor, they let the radicals run wild. Clark and Pelosi’s votes speak louder than any press release. The Democratic Party is increasingly unwilling to project strength or stand with proven allies. They’re too busy chasing the approval of activists who see Israel as the problem.

For America First conservatives, this is an opening. While Democrats tear themselves apart over whether to fund our allies or surrender to isolationist-progressive fantasies, we stand for peace through strength. We stand for supporting partners who buy American weapons and share our fight against terrorism. We reject the idea that taxpayer dollars are an unlimited blank check — but we also reject the notion that strategic alliances should be discarded to appease the loudest voices in the streets.

The 2026 midterms will test whether voters recognize this fracture for the weakness it represents. More than 100 Democrats just voted to undermine Israel. That’s not a minor procedural spat — it’s a warning of where their party is headed if unchecked. Democrats are choosing their path. The rest of us should choose security, strength, and sanity. The widening schism on the left isn’t just their problem — it’s America’s opportunity to reject radicalism at the ballot box.

Sources:

Roll Call — https://rollcall.com/2026/07/15/dems-split-on-massie-effort-to-zero-out-israel-security-aid/

CNN — https://www.cnn.com/2026/07/15/politics/military-aid-israel-democrats-split-vote

The Washington Post — https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2026/07/15/democrats-israel-aid-trump-netanyahu/

NBC News — https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/house-democratic-leaders-split-us-aid-israel-public-opinion-shifts-rcna587681

France 24 — https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20260717-democrats-israel-split-widens-ahead-of-us-midterms

OPINION: More than 100 House Democrats voted to strip $3.3 billion in military aid to Israel.
