June alone produced 53,808 in-absentia removal orders as courts finally enforce the law
June 2026 delivered the largest single-month haul of in-absentia removal orders in the history of the immigration courts. The number hit 53,808 — a 55 percent jump from the previous record set in May. That is not a statistical blip. It is the direct result of the Trump administration’s “mega master” calendar hearings, a deliberate acceleration that yanked cases scheduled for 2027 and 2028 into the present and forced the system to function like a system again.
These hearings pack 70 to more than 100 nondetained aliens before a single immigration judge on short notice. Median lead time collapsed to 42 days. Mailed notices often failed to arrive; many respondents only discovered the new date by checking the court’s online portal. Fail to appear and the statute is clear: the judge issues an in-absentia removal order. In June that mechanism produced more than 20,000 of the total orders under the primary definition of a mega master docket. New York City’s absentia numbers more than doubled to 4,447. Dallas and Chicago each cleared more than 6,000. San Antonio hit 4,334. The record shows the backlog was never a mystery of complexity. It was a political choice to slow-walk removals.
The establishment howled on cue. Attorneys and advocacy groups called the practice “diabolical,” a steamroller that denies due process. They complained that short-notice scheduling punishes the unrepresented and the distant. The record shows the opposite. For years the same courts ran on glacial calendars while the border stayed open and the docket ballooned past three million cases. The prior regime treated absence as a feature, not a bug. The current one treats it as the legal consequence it has always been. When the rules finally apply, the no-shows get ordered removed. That is not cruelty. That is arithmetic.
Chess players understand tempo. The open-borders faction spent years buying time — continuances, distant hearing dates, endless asylum claims that never faced a merits hearing. Mega masters seize the tempo. They collapse the calendar, expose who is actually prepared to defend a claim, and clear the board of those who never intended to appear. The left’s sudden devotion to individualized process is selective. It never applied when the same courts rubber-stamped releases into the interior. Now that the board is being reset, process becomes sacred.
This is war by paperwork. The patriots who demanded enforcement after years of deliberate sabotage are watching the tools work. The establishment is running out of tricks. Every absentia order is another data point that the prior system was designed to fail. The numbers are not abstract. They are the difference between a nation that decides who enters and a nation that simply absorbs whoever shows up and then pretends the backlog is inevitable.
The pendulum is swinging back. Courts that once existed to process endless claims are now processing consequences. The record will show that when the political will returned, the machinery responded. The only remaining question is how long the holdouts can keep pretending that mass non-appearance is a civil right.
