From Clarksville to Belfast: How Three Knife Cases Became One Internet War

That transformation is worth examining not because the cases are alike, but because they are not. In the span of a few weeks, three incidents with little in common beyond their ability to provoke outrage became intertwined across social media. As each new story emerged, it was folded into an existing online narrative until geography, law, and context gave way to a single overarching grievance. The cases themselves could hardly be more different. In Tennessee, streamer Dalton Eatherly, known online as ” Chud the Builder,” was charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting a man outside a courthouse in an act of self-defense. The case quickly became the subject of debates over self-defense and stand-your-ground laws. In Texas, Karmelo Anthony was convicted of murdering Austin Metcalf following a fatal stabbing at a high school track meet.
